A trick frequently used to quote a suspiciously low bid to secure a small job.  Once they are on the roof, they claim to have found a much larger, catastrophic problem that requires thousands of dollars to fix immediately.

The costliest and most frequent scams involves a roofer demanding a large deposit — claiming it is necessary to purchase materials or secure a spot in their schedule. Once the homeowner pays the contractor never returns.
